'Walls', March 2018, 36 Gallery, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
‘I put a picture on a wall. Then I forget there is a wall. I no longer know what there is behind this wall, I no longer know this wall is a wall, I know longer know what a wall is.’
Species of Spaces and Other Pieces, Georges Perec.
What is a wall? Walls effaces walls with pictures, attempting to give light to the role of the humble wall.
This exhibition featured the first-showing of Morris’ monoprint series ‘Paper on Paper’, alongside site-specific wall-drawings and experimental work. The aim was to explore how walls shape experience, and can subtly orientate our view, placement, sense of self and connection to things.
